The ubiquitous-Home Healthcare Service(u-HHS), a branch of the u-Healthcare service, constitutes a basic scenario in which users can manage their health and prevent diseases, whenever and wherever, within their home using portable devices connected to a computer or wireless communication network. As medical services grow up, u-HHS focuses on 'prevention' as its ultimate goal, however, research and documentation discussing u-Healthcare services concentrate on 'management' rather than 'prevention.' Currently, u-HHS is considered from several perspectives; informative communication, medical engineering, electronic engineering, business, industrial engineering and marketing functions, technology, systems and hardware provided by developed technology and general system factors. Thus a top-down service is provided to the users, and, because these services target users are typically either people with chronic diseases or seniors in need of continuous assistance rather than healthy people for whom promotion of health and maintenance is more appropriate. In other words, the definition of 'Wellness' service is becoming clouded.
Numerous research and documentation centered on friendly interfaces and personalized u-HHS systems based on user experience optimization are being created in a response to criticism suggesting that existing u-HHS do not integrate user centered motivations. Also, due to many other factors including, the growing silver age society, the increase of chronic disease and obesity, a desire for healthier lives and general wellbeing and significant shifts in lifestyle trends, we can see that health is a demanding issue and that users are requesting different kinds of information and services. Similarly we can observe that user centered service design based on wellness for u-HHS is growing daily.
After studies from related reports and cases, the awareness and activeness of health maintenance are perceived as important in wellness-centered u-HHS and the notion that users should be able to consume the service information from with ease is becoming popular. Therefore, the needs of u-HHS design tools for designers unfamiliar with this topic must be developed. With this realm of needs as a base, a carefully planned medium is made relevant for a 'Creative Strategy' for users to participate in development and the 'Principle of Persuasion' must also be integrated. For this reason, we developed 'Creative Service Design for U-home healthcare(C.S.D.U)' model based on 'u-HHS environmental feature' as a service design tool. After an experiment with the C.S.D.U model, we found the C.S.D.U model helped designers generate service design ideas enhancing users awareness and activeness related to health maintenance. Also, the C.S.D.U model could guide and support designers who are not yet familiar with wellness-centered u-HHS design.
u-홈헬스케어 서비스는 가정에서 원격 의료 서비스를 통해 질환 및 질병예방, 건강을 관리할 수 있는 `예방중심(Wellness)`의 서비스를 기본 시나리오로 가지고 있다. 하지만 현재 u-헬스케어 서비스에 관련된 연구와 문헌 및 시행되고 있는 서비스 사례들을 살펴본 결과, 만성질환자나 노인들과 같이 질병 관리 차원에서의 서비스 성향으로 좁혀지고 있었으며, 건강한 사람들을 위한 질병예방 차원의 ‘건강관리 중심’ 서비스의 의미는 퇴색되어 가고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
문헌 연구와 사례 조사를 통해 건강관리 중심의 u-홈헬스케어 서비스에서는 사용자의 예방을 위한 건강관리에 대한 인식증진과 능동적인 건강관리행위가 중요하며, 이를 사용자의 입장에서 자연스럽게 받아들일 수 있도록 하는 서비스 디자인의 접근이 요구됨을 알 수 있었다. 또한 이를 위해 아직 초기성장산업으로서 디자이너들의 원활한 접근을 돕는 서비스 디자인 지원모델의 필요성을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 필요성을 바탕으로, 본 연구에서는 건강관리 중심의 u-홈헬스케어 서비스 디자인을 돕는 디자인 모델을 개발하였다. 사용자에게 효과적인 서비스 메시지를 전달하도록 돕는 ‘표현전략(Creative Strategy)’과 능동적인 행위유도를 가능하게 하는 설득원리(Principle of Persuasion)’를 중심으로 ‘u-홈헬스케어 서비스 환경에 특화된 서비스 디자인 지원 모델이다. 모델명은 ‘C.S.D.U(Creative Service Design for U-home healthcare)’모델로서, 본 모델의 검증을 위한 디자인 워크샵 실험결과, 건강관리 중심의 u-홈헬스케어 서비스 디자인에 있어 사용자 중심에서의 능동적인 건강관리행위 및 자연스러운 건강관리에 대한 인식을 심어줄 수 있는 구체적인 디자인 전략과 다양한 서비스 디자인 아이디어 도출에 본 모델의 적용이 도움이 된다는 것을 발견하게 되었고, 디자이너들에게 아직 익숙하지 않은 u-홈헬스케어 서비스 디자인에 원활한 참여와 효과적인 서비스 디자인을 돕는 디자인 지원모델을 제안했다는 것으로서 본 연구의 의미를 갖는다.
