Human and plants have been living together through maintaining intimate relationship each other from long times ago. After the human society has been developed, however, environment of human life has been surrounded by artificial stuff and human has been separated with nature. Recently, Many people are getting have interest about relationship between human and plants, they researched how plants affects to human body or mental state. The result was that plants have a big role for human health in many ways.
This study aims that design does a role of maximizing the effect of plants to human through enhancing the relationship between them, and suggest design of emotional expressive plant pot.
Research through case study and user centered design methods(Focus group interview and user diary) were conducted for investigating how emotional communication was generated between two actors, which contexts and situations could make a worth in emotional coummunication, which aspects could be applied to design of emotional expressive plant pot. Through this process, required elements were settled as design factor which is possible to implement for practical purposes. Accordingly the concept of emotional expressive pot was decided and first prototyping process was conducted for realizing the concept to working prototype and designing interaction modeling. Working prototype was used for second user research which was conducted by using the prototype in the real situation of user. After that, Final prototype was designed applying the modification elements through the second user research.
Finally The emotional expressive pot was evaluated with user diary and ethnography experiment. Through the result, Findings including value, limitations, opportunities of the emotional expressive plant pot were settled. The meaning of the study is that the possibility of new interaction between human and plant was explored by the proposal of the concept of emotional expressive pot and users get a chance to have a new experience which gives the value to users.
식물은 인간이 존재해온 역사와 함께 해오며 가장 근본적인 생존 조건에서부터 인간 생활의 미약한 부분에 미치는 역할까지 다양한 영역에서 서로 얽혀있는 관계를 이루며 상호작용해오고 있다. 식물은 이산화탄소를 흡수하고 산소를 방출하며, 광합성 작용을 통해 스스로 에너지를 생산해내고, 그 에너지를 인간과 동물들이 섭취함으로써 생명을 유지할 수 있게 된다. 먹는 것 뿐만 아니라 입고, 자고, 살아가는 대부분의 생활 필수품도 식물로 구성되어 있고, 인간이 살아갈 수 있는 환경을 유지해 준다.(나승일, 1999) 이토록 식물이 인간에게 매우 중요함에도 불구하고 현대사회는 과학의 발전을 통한 도시화와 함께 인간을 자연과 멀어지도록 만들었다. 현대 사회의 생활 형태의 변화 중 가장 큰 특징은 도시인의 실내활동이 점점 더 길어진다는 것이다. 실제로 하루 중 80-90% 이상을 실내에서 생활하고 있다고 말하고 있다.(Jenkins 외, 1992) 이에 따라 환경 오염도 야기되고, 건강적 문제 혹은 스트레스에 따른 질병도 발생하게 되었다.(Smith, 1993)
하지만 연구 결과들에 따르면 이러한 문제점들의 해결방안으로 식물의 역할이 매우 다양한 방면으로 중요하다는 것을 알 수 있다. 방안에서 기르는 실내 식물은 기온, 습도, 등의 온열 환경을 조절하여 쾌적성을 향상시키는 효과가 있을 뿐만 아니라, 인간의 긴장감과 불안을 완화시키고 정서적 안정 효과를 주는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 그 외에도 식물의 향에 의한 생리심리적인 효과, 식물을 바라보는 것에 의한 정신생리향상 효과와 시각 피로완화, 스트레스 경감효과, 실내의 유해가스를 흡수, 흡착하는 공기 정화 효과 등이 밝혀졌다.
이에 본 연구가 주목한 것이 인간과 식물의 관계를 적극적으로 증진시켜주기 위한 디자인의 역할이다. 디자인의 역할을 통하여 인간과 식물 사이의 매개체로써 관계에 도움을 줄 수 있는 방법들에 대하여 심도 있는 연구 진행이 필요한 것이다.
본 논문은 이러한 인간과 식물의 관계를 증진 시키고자 감성을 표현하는 화분을 제안하였다. 감성 표현을 통하여 사용자와의 원활한 커뮤니케이션을 가능케 하고 상호작용성을 높여줌으로써 관계의 질을 높여주고자 한다. 이에 따라 사람이 식물에게서 받는 긍정적 영향력, 특히 정신적 측면에서의 영향력을 극대화 시키고자 하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
