The main objective of this research is to verify the effect of entrepreneurs' characteristics, which can be categorized into demographic and psychological characteristics, on the initial performances of the IT venture companies and to find significant success factors of IT venture business. A survey was conducted to collect data from IT venture companies residing in business incubators.
As a result, among demographic characteristics, only age was related to sales amount. Among psychological characteristics, need for achievement and risk-taking propensity were related to the sales amount and the entrepreneur's satisfaction while locus of control was related only to the sales amount.
This research provides an implication that the entrepreneur's psychological characteristics are more related to the initial performance of IT venture companies than the entrepreneur's demographic characteristics.
본 연구는 창업자의 배경적 특성과 심리적 특성이 IT벤처기업의 초기 경영성과에 미치는 영향에 대한 분석을 통하여 IT벤처기업의 중요한 성공요인을 도출하고자 시도하였다. 창업자의 연령, 창업자의 학력, 창업자의 창업경험, 창업자 친인척의 창업경험을 창업자의 배경적 특성 변수로 선정하였으며, 창업자의 성취욕구, 통제위치, 위험감수성향, 모호함에 대한 인내를 심리적 특성 변수로 선정하여 이들 변수가 IT벤처기업의 매출액과 경영자 만족도에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 창업보육센터에 입주한 IT벤처기업의 창업대표자를 대상으로 실시된 설문결과가 실증분석에 활용되었다. 그 결과, 배경적 특성 중에서 창업자의 연령이 매출액과 관계가 있는 것으로 나타났을 뿐, 그 외 배경적 특성과 경영성과간의 관계는 발견되지 않았다. 창업자의 심리적 특성 중에서 창업자의 성취욕구, 통제위치, 위험감수성향이 경영성과와 관련이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구를 통해 창업자의 배경적 특성 보다 심리적 특성이 창업초기의 IT벤처기업의 경영성과에 더 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 분석되었다.
