This paper proposes to demonstrate the relationship between the broadband internet service and contents as a hardware/software system in indirect network. I examine the data of two variables in Korea broadband internet service market between 2001 and 2007. The methodology is to assume that two variables can be estimated by simultaneous equation model and they are endogenous variables affected each other. Empirical results suggest that the model has simultaneity and the two variables are endogenous. It means that there is mutual relationship between the broadband internet service and contents, and there are indirect network externalities which induce an increase of the utility. This relationship implies that variety of contents affect to increase the network size, vice-versa.
이 논문은 하드웨어와 소프트웨어 시스템으로 구분되는 두 산업에서 존재하는 간접 네트워크 효과를 실증적 데이터를 통하여 증명하려고 하였다. 이에 따라 하드웨어로서 초고속 인터넷 서비스는 그 가입자 수를, 소프트웨어로서 컨텐츠는 도메인의 수로 데이터를 설정하였고, 두 데이터 변수는 2001 년부터 2007 년까지의 한국의 초고속 인터넷 서비스를 중심으로 서비스 가입자 수와 도메인 수는 내생변수로 실질가격과 전자상거래 규모(거래액)을 선결변수로 포함하였다. 본 논문의 목적이 초고속 가입자 수와 도메인 수가 서로 긍정적 상호 영향을 주는 관계를 도출함으로써 여기에는 간접네트워크 효과가 존재한다는 것이므로, 두 내생변수의 상호 연립성과 내생성을 추정하기 위하여 연립방정식 모형을 사용하였다. 실험적 결과로 두 식과 변수 사이에서는 연립성과 내생성이 존재하였고, 두 변수 모두 서로에게 양(+)의 영향을 미치는 것으로 추정되었다. 이는 초고속 인터넷 가입자 수와 도메인 수는 서로 양(+)의 영향을 주며 동시적으로 증가한다는 것이고, 이는 다시 말하면 컨텐츠의 다양화가 네트워크 크기를 증가시키고 다시 네크워크 크기에 의해 컨텐츠가 더 다양화 되면서 전체의 효용을 증가시키는 간접 네트워크 효과가 존재한다는 것이다. 이와 같은 간접 네트워크 효과는 비단 유선 인터넷 서비스뿐만이 아닌 무선 인터넷 서비스에서도 동일하게 작용할 것이다.
