The rapid growth of the Internet has come with an increasing heterogeneity and diversity in the network devices and connections used for information access. Conventionally content adaptation is one of the important technologies to guarantee the Quality of Service (QoS) to multimedia applications in heterogeneous terminals and networks. This content adaptation technology can be classified into two categories; one is the content scaling which controls the quality of the content according to the given constraints and the other is modality conversion which converts one modality to different modality, such as video to image. Usually the content scaling method has been used to support the quality of the content corresponding to constraints in terminal and network resources. The quality of the content, however, may be destroyed significantly although the content scaling may be able to sufficiently reduce the rate. In this case, modality conversion may be acceptable and better solution to guarantee the quality of the content.
In this paper, we are focused on the experiment of video to image modality conversion method. We also show that in terms of human perceptual information, it is reasonable to convert the video version into the image version in real environment from two kinds of experiment.
본 논문에서는 네트워크 및 단말 특성에 따른 제약조건 하에서 비디오가 갖는 시각정보량을 효과적으로 중요한 이미지화 할 수 있는 양식(modality)변환을 다룬다. 범용적 멀티미디어 접근에서 컨텐츠 적응변환은 주어진 제약조건 하에서 사용자에게 최상의 QoS를 보장해 주기 위한 주요 기술 중의 하나이다. 이러한 컨텐츠 적응변환 기술은 크게 두 가지의 범주로 구분 할 수 있다. 하나는 주어진 단말특성 또는 네크워크 환경 등의 제약조건에 맞게 컨텐츠의 질을 변환시키는 컨텐츠 스케일링 기술이고, 다른 하나는 기존 컨텐츠의 양식을 다른 양식으로 변환시키는 양식변환 기술이다. 지금까지는 주로 제약조건에 따라 적절한 QoS를 보장하는 방법으로 컨텐츠 스케일링 기술을 사용해왔다. 그러나, 상황에 따라서는 양식을 변환함으로써 사용자에게 보다 나은 정보를 제공할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 비디오에서 이미지로의 양식 변환의 기준이 되는 변환 점을 찾고, 실험을 통해 변환 점 이하에서 낮은 질로 스케일링 된 비디오 보다는 비디오에서 이미지로의 양식변환을 이용한 높은 질의 중요한 이미지 열이 사용자에게 지각 정보량 관점에서 더 많은 정보를 제공하는 것을 보인다.
앞으로 컨텐츠 가치를 효율적으로 측정하기 위한 다양한 실험을 수행하고, 여러 장르의 멀티미디어 컨텐츠에 대한 의미적 요소를 찾는 연구를 진행해야 한다.
