Maintaining high quality IT service in financial institutions have become crucial factors for retaining customers and hence keeping competitiveness. In particular, because of the attributes of the product uniformity of brokerage industry, online brokerage has grown significantly through IT development and customer enhancement of self service technology adoption since the early 2000s. In result, many securities firms replaced their full service retail brokerage portion to online brokerage system and the emergence of a new pure brokerage firm accelerated this competition. However, as the online trading business was getting mature, the profitability of the IT investment and IT quality assessment about online trading became questioned through severe competition and cannibalization.
This study examines the issues of IT investment and its profitability by analyzing the relationship of IT quality of firm and related causal factors. In addition, by observing the correlation of the IT quality improvement and profitability of brokerage portfolio of each firm, I evaluate general profitability of IT investments and business relationships. And for those profitability changes made by company`s IT quality maturity, I will study other external factors regarding firm capacity that affect IT quality and business performance through statistical research.
오늘날 금융기관의 높은 수준의 IT 서비스 제공은 경쟁력 있는 고객서비스 및 고객 유치를 위해서 필수적인 요소가 되었다. 특히 상품의 특성이 균일화된 증권사의 브로커리지 사업부문의 경우 온라인 브로커리지는 IT의 발전과 투자자들의 IT 서비스 활용능력의 향상을 통해 지난 2000년대 초반 이후 괄목할 만한 성장을 거두었다. 이 결과 많은 증권사들을 그들의 전통적 브로커리지 사업영역을 온라인 브로커리지로 대체하였고 새로운 온라인 전문 브로커리지 증권사들이 등장하면서 경쟁은 가속화되었다. 하지만 온라인 트레이딩 사업이 성숙하면서 경쟁이 심화됨에 따라 수익성이 악화 되고 증권사 온라인 트레이딩에 대한 IT투자 및 질적평가의 궁극적 수익 창출에 대한 논란이 일어났다. 본 연구를 통해 증권사 온라인 브로커리지의 IT투자활동과 그 질적평가의 상관관계에 대해서 분석하고자 한다. 그리고 또한 증권사의 IT 질적 평가가 증권사의 성과에 어떠한 상관관계가 있는지 알아봄으로써 종국적으로 IT투자와 기업의 수익성향상에 관한 관계를 알아보고자 한다. 그리고 그러한 변화양상이 기업이 가진 IT 성숙도의 단계에 따라 어떠한 변화를 가지고 있고 주요 영향을 주는 기업 외적 역량들에 대해 분석을 함으로써 IT투자에 대한 투자 성과에 대한 보다 심도 있는 고찰을 하고자 한다.
