In the process of the development of information systems, frequent omissions and redundancies of user requirements are bound to increase the costs of their correction. This implies that business requirements described without formal methodologies would both broaden the development cycle and add to the overall business expenditures. In order to alleviate this problem, various methodologies for describing the business process have been proposed in the literature. However, there has been no general agreement regarding a superior methodology, which motivates our study. In this thesis, we provide a general framework for analyzing and appraising competitive methodologies. The analysis focused on the methodologies of the Entity-Relationship Diagram, the Data Flow Diagram, and the Use Case Diagram. It was found through an empirical study of aspects such as the simplicity, correctness, and expression power of the three methodologies that the Entity-Relationship Diagram can be regarded as one of the most dominant methodologies currently available. Despite the weak readability of this methodology, its high expression power and convenience demonstrate its clear advantages. Additionally, the results imply that adequate use of well-formed job descriptions can create considerable synergy with the Entity-Relationship Diagram in the development of information systems.
기업 정보시스템 개발 프로젝트에서 필수적인 사용자 요구형성 과정은 중복과 누락이 발생하는 프로세스의 묘사로 인해 이를 수정하기 위한 사용자와 분석가 간의 분석, 검증이 반복된다는 부담을 지니고 있다. 따라서 사용자 요구형성 과정은 분석가와 현업 실무자 간의 명세 실패 및 비효율적인 분석 반복으로 인한 개발 기간과 비용의 증가로 이어질 수 밖에 없다. 이러한 부담을 해결하기 위해서 그 동안 단순하면서도 명확한 묘사를 가능케 하는 다양한 기법들이 제시되었으나 본 논문에서는 IDEF0, Role Activity Diagram, System Dynamics 를 제외하고 우수한 데이터 및 애플리케이션 설계력으로 인해 대표성 있고, 높은 사용자 편리성으로 인해 효율적으로 평가받는 도구인 개체 관계도, 자료 흐름도, 그리고 유즈케이스 다이어그램을 주요 분석 대상으로 선택하였다. 이 3가지 기법을 표현 간단성, 정확성 그리고 이를 기반으로 한 표현 능력 관점으로 비교하여본 결과 데이터 중심 기법인 개체 관계도가 타 기법에 비해 표현되는 정보량의 상대적인 비율이 높지만 간단하고 구조화된 묘사 방법으로 명확한 업무 표현능력을 나타내었고 쉬운 표현 방법으로 활용 편이성과 데이터 설계시 보여주는 용이성으로 우수함을 확인하였다. 또한 개체 관계도의 낮은 표현 간단성을 보완하기 위해 문장 형태로 표현되는 업무기술서와 병행하여 행위 중심으로 활용한다면 정확하고 효율적인 기업 업무 프로세스 묘사가 가능함을 확인하였다.
