We propose Player Space Director as a platform to support the development and runtime environment for ubiquitous games, especially context aware games. It addresses important issues; first, it abstracts various sensor and actuator devices. It efficiently handles input data from the sensors and recognizes contexts used in game play. Recognition of game context is algorithmically and computationally challenging processing involving multi-staged processing, such as preprocessing, data cleansing, feature generation, and context recognition. An important consideration of such issues is that PSD will usually run on resource- and energy-limited personal mobile devices. We address the issues of the design and implementation of the Player Space Director, and also develop an example game, Running Bomber, to show the effectiveness of the platform. New games have been driven by new technologies. The proposed Play Space Director will form an important substrate which can accelerate the proliferation of upcoming ubiquitous games.
