U-Secretary service is a mobile phone context-aware service that a mobile phone controls phone call connections for its user just like a human secretary answers calls for his/her boss.
When a user is engaged on an important task such as business meeting, U-Secretary does not notify incoming calls during the task and informs the caller of the user’s context. In that case the caller will compare the importance of the call to the context so that he can decide whether to interrupt or not.
This service could be also useful when a callee does not respond to a phone call. U-Secretary will tell the caller 'Boss is away.' or 'Boss may not feel the vibration now because she is walking.' so that the caller does not waste time on calling and waiting.
Then a question remains. Is it possible that my mobile phone knows what I am doing? We can say it is not impossible. To prove this, we proposed a mobile phone context-aware system using multi-sensor. The multi-sensor has 3-axis accelerometer, microphone and touch sensor to recognize user's movement(static/walking/running), existence of talk and whether user is carrying the phone or not. We performed experiments with this multi-sensor considered as a mobile phone and classified these three low-level contexts with high recognition rate.
These contexts and user's location are used to infer various high-level contexts which decide U-Secretary's proper behavior.
U-비서 서비스는 휴대전화 상황인식을 이용하여 실제 비서처럼 사용자의 전화연결을 관리해주는 서비스이다. 예를 들어 회의와 같은 중요한 작업을 하고 있을 때 전화가 온다면, U-비서는 전화가 왔다는 사실을 수신자에게 알리지 않고 발신자에게 수신자의 상황을 알려준다. 그러면 발신자는 통화내용과 수신자 상황 간의 중요도를 비교하는 것이 가능하고 수신자에게 전화를 통해 방해를 할 것인지를 정할 수 있다. 이 서비스는 수신자가 전화가 울려도 받지 않을 경우에 또한 유용하다. U-비서가 ‘저는 지금 전화를 갖고 있지 않습니다’ 혹은 ‘저는 지금 걷는 중이라서 전화 온 사실을 모를 수 있습니다’라고 발신자에게 알리게 되면 발신자는 계속 기다리거나 여러번 거는 수고를 덜 수 있다. 제안한 서비스를 위해서는 과연 휴대전화가 사용자의 상황을 인식할 수 있는지 여부가 제일 중요하다고 할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 복합센서를 이용한 휴대전화 상황인식을 통해 이를 확인하였다. 3축가속도계, 마이크, 접촉센서를 통해 사용자의 움직임 정도(정적상태/걷기/달리기), 대화여부, 전화휴대여부를 알 수 있었는데 실험결과 비교적 만족스러운 인식률을 얻을 수 있었다. 실험을 통해 얻은 상황 요소와 장소를 결합하여 좀 더 구체적인 상황을 인식할 수 있고, 이 상황을 통해 U-비서는 적합한 서비스를 제공할 수 있다.
