A software system that completely defines and automatically executes workflows in order to manage the actual flow of work is called a workflow management system (WfMS), and a WfMS with some enhanced functionalities for managing and orchestrating various types of business processes is called business process management (BPM) system. On the other hand, a software system whose main goal is to facilitate access to information contained in documents spread throughout the internet is called a search engine, and it has evolved to the concept of enterprise portal by integrating such functions as virtual communities and by adding the ability to personalize interfaces. By combining the concepts of BPM system and enterprise portal, we have a BPM portal.
This paper supposes a BPM based process portal for journal submission & editing (JSE) process. The BPM based process portal is now being applied to the Journal of KIIE (Korean Institute of Industrial Engineers). The key features of the BPM based process portal are 1) ease of definition and modification of business rules such as process model and message template, 2) automatic message notification based on JSE progress to the authors and editors, and 4) personalized portlet for progress monitoring.
Workflow Management System(WfMS)이란 실제 업무 흐름을 제어하기 위해서 워크플로우를 자동으로 실행하고 정의하는 소프트웨어 시스템이고 Business Process Management System(BPMS)는 WfMS에서 좀 더 기능들을 추가하고 여러 종류의 프로세스를 함께 관리하는 시스템으로 정의된다. BPMS 기반 논문투고편집 프로세스 포탈은 '논문투고/편집 프로세스모델'을 기반으로 하여논문투고 알림, 편집위원 선정 등의 사용자가 해야 할 일을 챙겨주는 BPMS를 기반으로 하고 업무목록, 처리화면 및 논문진행상황 등의 논문상태정보에 대해 각 사용자 별로 개인화된 View를 제공하는 Web Portal System이다. 본 논문에서 제안하는 포탈은 타 시스템에 비해 유지보수 처리 면에서 좀 더 용이하게 처리 가능하다. 본 논문에서는 논문투고편집 프로세스를 대상으로 하는 BPMS 기반 프로세스 포탈에 대한 Architecture를 제안하고, 시스템을 이루고 있는 주요 Design Parameter들에 대한 설계와 동작에 대해 설명한다. 시스템의 주요 Design Parameter에는 프로세스를 정의하고 수정 가능한 프로세스 모델러, 업무가 실행될 때 발송되는 메시지를 정의하는 메시지 에디터, 사용자 별로 개인화된 마일스톤을 나타내는 마일스톤 뷰 등이 있다.
