In accordance with the success of KOSPI200 option market, KOSPI200 index's volatility has attracted interest of many researchers on various fields. Because underlying asset's volatility directly concerned to the option price, it becomes important to understand and forecast the volatility. Three methods, Implied Volatility (IV), Historical Volatility (HV) and GARCH Volatility model, are widely used to estimate volatility. On this research, the forecasting effectiveness of these methods is verified by comparing the correlation to the Realized Volatility (RV). And the value, subtracting from the implied volatility to the other volatility, is also checked to test whether it has the forecasting information. Both of the KOSPI200 index's daily data and intraday 30 seconds data are used. As a result, the relative value of the implied volatility to the historical volatility shows the highest correlation to realized volatility for both of the daily and 30 seconds data.
KOSPI200 지수 옵션 시장의 성공과 함께 KOSPI200 지수의 변동성에 대한 관심이 증가되어 왔다. 기초자산의 변동성은 옵션 가격에 직접적인 영향을 주어 수익을 변화 시키기 때문에 중요하다. 이에따라 다양한 연구 분야의 연구자들이 KOSPI200 지수의 변동성을 연구하고 있다. 그리고 변동성 추정 방식으로는 내재변동성(IV) 모형, 역사적 변동성(HV)모형, GARCH 변동성 모형, 이렇게 세가지 변동성 추정 방식이 현재 가장 많이 연구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이들 세가지 변동성 추정 모형의 미래 변동성 예측력을 실현변동성(RV)과의 상관성 분석을 통해서 비교하였다. 그리고 역사적 변동성을 기준으로 한 내재변동성의 상대적 수치 변화에 대해서도 예측력 검정을 실시하였다. 연구에는 2001년 부터 2005년 까지의 5년간의 일별 KOSPI200 data와 장중(intraday) 30초 data가 사용되었다. 그 결과, 두 기간의 data 모두에 대해서 역사적 변동성에 대한 내재변동성의 상대 수치가 실현변동성과의 상관성이 가장 크게 나타났음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이 결과는 내재변동성에서 역사적 변동성을 제한 상대적 수치는 미래의 변동성에 대한 정보를 가지고 있음을 의미한다.
