This study consists of two parts. In the first part, the problem of isotropic/anisotropic bimaterial having a singularity is studied while the problem of the distributed core structure of a screw dislocation is investigated in the second part.
In the case of isotropic/anisotropic bimaterial, the solutions have been obtained so far by assuming anisotropic materials as isotropic ones, because the isotropic solutions can not be inferred from the anisotropic solutions. The solution of a singularity problem in an isotropic/anisotropic bimaterial having a straight interface is obtained using the equivalence theorem between anisotropic and isotropic elasticity, proposed in this study. The solution of an out-of-plane singularity in an isotropic/anisotropic bimaterial having a circular inclusion is obtained as well.
A dislocation in crystal is distributed in core region rather than concentrated in line. This core region is investigated by other researchers using TEM or computer simulations. In the experiments the non-linear elastic field within the core is very difficult to measure, and in the computer simulations, the structure of the core region cannot be easily understood since the non-linear elastic behavior is dominant in the core.
A method was proposed by Hong and Kim to extract information on the non-linear zone from that on the linear elastic zone, which is called “field projection (FP)”. The method was applied to one dimensional cohesive zone model. In this study, an extended FP method is proposed, and applied to the core structure of two dimensional dislocations. The core structures of a screw dislocation in Cu and Ag (face-centered cubic crystals) and in Mo (body-centered cubic crystal) are analyzed under several boundary conditions. The results show that the dislocation in Cu and Ag exists with two partial dislocations on a slip plane and that in Mo is distributed on three different planes. The separation distance between the two partial dislocations in Cu and Ag due to their different stacking fault energies can be calculated by this method as well. Through the relation between the force acting on the dislocation and the moving distance of the dislocation we find that the central position of the dislocation moves along the slip direction before the onset of the dislocation slip. The Peierls stress for the dislocation movement can be thus defined and computed in this study: it is much less in Ag than that in Cu.
