The changes of financial market environment, such as consolidation, conglomeration and internationalization, require new capabilities of financial firms. Without learning and growth capabilities, financial firms can neither take opportunities to generate additional revenues nor overcome risks in customer services and internal business processes. In these reasons, financial firms in Korea are looking for the way to innovate their capabilities in knowledge management.
This study identifies the effect of consolidation, conglomeration and internationalization on financial firms and analyzes the role of knowledge management as a tool for facilitating development of learning and growth capabilities through the case study of specific financial firm’s knowledge management strategy planning. Then this study suggests some points that financial firms should consider as they continue and improve the implementation of knowledge management.
겸업화, 대형화, 국제화 추세에 있는 금융산업의 환경변화는 국내 금융기관의 수준 높은 지식 체계와 새로운 역량을 요구하고 있다. 국내 금융기관은 새로운 학습 및 성장 역량이 없이는 금융산업의 환경변화로 인한 고객 및 내부 프로세스 측면의 위기를 극복하기가 힘들게 되며, 이러한 위기를 극복하지 못할 경우 추가적인 수익 창출이라는 재무적 성과를 얻는 일도 어려워진다. 따라서 국내 금융기관들은 역량 혁신을 위한 방안으로서 지식경영 도입을 시작하게 되었다. 본 연구는 특정 금융기관의 지식경영 전략 수립에 대한 사례연구를 통해 겸업화, 대형화, 국제화되는 금융환경에서 금융기관의 역량 혁신에 지식경영이 어떠한 역할을 할 수 있을지를 분석하였다. 지식경영은 금융기관의 신상품 개발 역량 및 금융마케팅 역량을 강화하여 고객 서비스 수준을 향상시킴으로써 겸업화로 인한 새로운 수익원 창출을 가능하게 한다. 지식경영을 통한 협력적 문제해결 역량과 주체적인 혁신 역량은 합병 후의 업무 프로세스 비효율성을 제거하고 조직문화의 융합을 촉진하여 합병으로 인한 대형화 과정에서 시너지를 효과적으로 창출할 수 있도록 한다. 한편 지식경영을 통해 선진 금융지식을 습득하고 해외 전문가를 활용함으로써 국제화 시대에 대비한 역량 확보에 중심적인 역할을 할 수 있다. 이밖에 향후 국내 금융기관들의 지식경영 추진 시에 고려할 점들을 추가적으로 제시하였다.
