Internet Portal offers various services, which have multiple purposes and forms, and those services connect to each other. The complexity of service classification and relationship between services are growing fast, as types and varieties of service are increasing continuously. This situation gives problem that internet users have difficulties in finding the exact services what they want. Moreover, service suppliers have other difficulties in managing diverse services and communicating the service to the users. Therefore, internet users can find and use only small parts of whole internet portal services. Some current technologies such as Metadata, Thesaurus, Taxonomies used for management of portal services are not enough to solve such problems.
This thesis attempts to point out the solution of portal service management based on Topic maps that is one of the semantic web technologies. By using Topic maps as a management tool of service classification and relationship, Topic maps can be a basement of service management system for internet portal and it can activate portal services.
국내외의 인터넷 포털 사이트들은 검색, 커뮤니티, 커뮤니케이션 서비스를 위주로 한 다양한 형태의 서비스를 제공하고 있으며 지속적으로 새로운 형태의 서비스들을 개발하여 사용자에게 공급하고 있다. 서비스의 종류가 증가함에 따라 서비스의 위계 구조를 표현하는 서비스 분류 체계와 서비스의 연결성을 표현해 주는 연관 체계의 복잡도 또한 그에 비례하여 증가하고 있다. 이와 같은 현실을 비추어 볼 때 서비스의 분류와 연관체계에 대한 체계적인 관리 방법이 제시되어야 하는 상황임에도 불구하고 이에 대한 연구가 부족한 상황이다.
이는 사용자 측면에서는 다양하게 제공되는 서비스 중에서 자신이 사용하고자 하는 서비스를 탐색하거나, 자신에게 도움이 될 수 있는 서비스를 제시받을 수 있는 비용이 증가함을 의미하게 되며, 공급자 측면에서는 공급하고 있는 다양한 서비스 중에서 부각된 일부의 특정 서비스만이 사용자에게 전달되고 전체 서비스들에 대한 활용도는 떨어지고 있음을 의미하게 된다. 또한 서비스의 다양성이 증가함에 따라 서비스간 연계를 통하여 새로운 부가가치를 창출할 수 있는 기회가 많아짐에도 불구하고, 관리체계의 미비로 그 서비스가 공급자가 사용자에게 제공할 수 있는 효용가치를 극대화하지 못하는 경우가 빈번히 발생하고 있다고 할 수 있다.
