Currently, Social Responsible Investment (SRI) is one of emerging global issues in investment and financial markets around the world. Since more than 200 global investment funds embed the sustainability and responsibility of firms as part of valuation criteria, the collection and evaluation of data and information on corporate sustainability and responsibility (CSR) becomes increasingly important. In case of financial service institutions, they face dual tasks - one is to develop their own SRI strategies for their investment and loan activities, and the other is to make its own CSR programs for their stakeholders.
This dissertation is an exploratory study on sustainable and responsible management activity types of global financial institutions, attempting to address the following: 1) What do we mean by sustainable and responsible management activity in financial institutions? 2) How do the global financial institutions act to achieve sustainable development? 3) What are the types of such activities? 4) How do these activities differ with respect to their business and management environment? To answer these questions, the sustainability reports of 22 global financial institutions are analyzed and compared with respect to GRI (Global Reporting Initiative) framework.
세계적으로 지속가능이슈에 관한 가장 큰 화두는 사회책임투자(SRI, Social Responsible Investment)에 관한 것이다. 지속가능경영의 패러다임에 많은 투자자들이 관심을 모으고 있고 200개 이상의 글로벌 투자 펀드가 지속가능개념의 투자전략을 따르고 있다. 또한 SRI 투자자들이 실제로 지속가능경영성과가 높은 금융기관을 통한 투자를 원하고 있어 금융서비스 산업분야에서 지속가능성 정보에 대한 필요성이 불가피하다. 그 어느 때보다 지속가능경영(Sustainable Management)과 기업의 사회적 책임(CSR, Corporate Social Responsibility)의 정보확보에 대한 금융기관의 역할이 중요한 시기이며 이러한 측면에서 금융산업분야는 두가지 역할을 부여하게 되었다. 첫째 지속 가능한 투자와 상품을 개발하고 활성화시켜야 할 의무와 둘째, CSR 프로그램을 통해서 기업의 사회적 책임 실현에 대한 이해관계자들의 요구에 대응하는 것이다.
따라서 본 논문은 글로벌 금융기관의 지속가능경영활동 유형에 관한 탐색적 연구를 위해서 수행되었고 연구과제는 다음과 같다. 1)금융기관에서 지속가능경영활동의 의미는 무엇인가? 2)금융기관의 지속가능경영활동 실태는 어떠한가? 2) 금융기관의 지속가능경영활동은 어떤 유형으로 나타나는가? 3)금융기관의 경영환경에 따른 지속가능경영활동의 특징은 어떻게 다른가?
이 연구과제의 해결을 위해 글로벌 금융기관 22곳의 지속가능보고서를 분석하였고 GRI 프레임웍에 준한 비교를 수행하였다.
