Today, the two dominant economic trends today are globalization and commoditization. The information about products and prices are available instantly and globally. The response of the business world is to focus on productivity, and to seek partnerships. The way to solve these problems is by revealing your processes with your desire for collaboration. The improvement of productivity becomes another competition in company. There is a solution that can deliver the control and visibility that executives need to manage their organizations for success. That solution is business process management, or BPM - the aligning and coordinating of people, activities, and resources to achieve organizational goals. Although many companies are interested in the BPM solution, they hesitate the application of BPM in their company because they think that it is difficult to understand the differentiation of BPM comparing other solution such as BPR, ERP, EAI, workflow and the application cases of BPM are rare. So, to help the companies which concern about the application of BPM and the researchers who are interested in BPM, this paper provides a basic concept and analysis of BPM, beginning with a look at some of the challenges that large organizations face in achieving their business objectives, especially the challenges of aligning information technology to support those objectives. Firstly, this paper handles the emergence of BPM, the analysis of BPM comparing other solutions and the research of BPM market trend. The second part of this page treats the architecture of BPM and the way to implement BPM solution. Finally, the case analysis of company which applies to BPM solution is investigated through the research and interview.
최근 글로벌 기업경쟁 환경은 우리나라 기업들의 시급한 경쟁력 향상을 요구하고 있다. 경쟁우위 유지를 지속적으로 추구하고 있는 선진 초우량 기업들과의 경쟁뿐만 아니라, 풍부한 자원을 배경으로 하여 급속히 성장하고 있는 중국 등 신흥 경제권 기업들과의 예상되는 경쟁은 우리 기업들의 입지를 더욱 어렵게 만들고 있는 것이 현실이라 하겠다. 따라서 지금 우리 기업의 경쟁력 강화를 위해서 해야 할 일들 가운데 특히 시급한 과제는 선진 초우량 기업들과 비교하여 현저히 떨어져 있는 우리 기업들의 생산성을 향상시키는 일이라 하겠다. 이런 점에서 볼 때, 지식, 정보화 사회에서 생산성 향상의 핵심 수단인 정보기술을 경쟁 국가의 기업들보다 우월하게 활용하는 일은 우리 기업들에게 큰 기회가 될 수 있다 하겠으며 생산성의 향상도 하나의 기업의 경쟁력이라 할 수 있겠다. 이러한 기회를 얻기위해 우리나라에서는 Workflow 와 EAI 기술발전과 더불어 최근 BPM(Business Process Management) 의 개념이 널리 보급되고 있으며 이것이 비즈니스의 컨설팅의 주제로써 관심이 확대되고 있다. 그러나 아직 BPM은 초기단계에 머물고 있어 기업에게 있어 BPM의 정확한 개념과 핵심역량이 제대로 인식되고 있지 못하고 있는 실정이다. 많은 기업에서는 BPR 적용 실패를 교훈 삼아 BPR 의 문제점들을 시스템적으로 보안하려는 시도가 생기기 시작하였고 BPM 은 그 시도의 첫걸음이라 하겠다. 많은 기업들은 BPM에 대해 관심을 두고 있으나 개념이 기존의 IT 솔루션과 크게 다르지 않다고 판단하거나 아직까지 적용기업이 많지 않아 새로운 시스템의 도입에 대한 불안으로 자회사에 BPM을 도입하는 것을 망설이고 있다. 따라서 본문에서는 새롭게 떠오르고 있는 BPM 의 출연배경과 개념, 시장상황 그리고 그에 대한 기술표준과 아키텍쳐들에 대해 소개하고 기업사례를 연구하므로서 BPM 이 가져다 줄 수 있는 기업의 비즈니스 프로세스 혁신과 경영을 위한 방법들을 모색해 보기로 하겠다.
