CBIR(Content-based image retrieval) has mainly considered how to search an image database based on the content to find an image similar to a query image. For a large image database, the storage management of images and their metadata becomes one of the most important parts in CBIR. Because the image database system frequently accesses feature data which is stored as metadata, the performance is significantly affected by the storage method of the images and their metadata. In this thesis, considering the shape feature as a major feature data for image retrieval and the existence of some patterns in shape features of the classified images, we propose a metadata representation and storage method for image search based on shape features.
First, we extend MPEG-7 for describing the shape features which are undefined in the standard MPEG-7. Second, we design a storage schema for storing images and their metadata. Then, we propose an efficient storage method for managing the polar projection feature data using an wavelet technique. In addition, we find some patterns among the images classified by the content, and use the patterns for searching. Finally, we provide the performance results of our proposed storage method and pattern search. We show through that the proposed method is efficient for storing image metadata for image search based on shape features.
내용기반 이미지 검색은 질의 이미지와 비슷한 이미지를 내용에 기반하여 찾는 방법이다. 대용량 이미지 데이타베이스에서 이미지와 메타데이타의 저장관리는 내용기반 이미지 검색에서 매우 중요한 부분이다. 이미지 데이타베이스 시스템은 메타데이타로 저장된 특성 데이타를 자주 이용하기 때문에, 이미지와 메타데이타의 저장 기법은 성능에 큰 영향을 준다. 본 논문에서는 이미지의 주된 특성 데이타를 모양 특성으로 정하고, 분류된 이미지에서 패턴이 존재한다는 가정을 바탕으로, 모양 특성에 기반한 이미지 검색을 위해 메타데이타의 표현과 저장 기법을 제안한다.
먼저 MPEG-7 표준에서 정의되지 않은 모양특성을 기술하기 위해 MPEG-7을 확장하고, 이미지와 메타데이타를 저장하기 위한 저장 스키마을 디자인한다. 그리고, Wavelet 기법을 사용하여 Polar projection 특성 데이타를 처리하기 위한 효율적인 저장 방법을 제안한다. 또한, 내용에 의해서 분류된 이미지 사이에 존재하는 패턴을 검색에 이용할 수 있는 방법을 제시한다. 마지막으로, 제안된 저장 기법과 패턴을 이용한 검색의 실험 내용을 통해, 제안된 방법이 모양 특성을 기반으로 이미지를 검색하는데 효율적인 이미지 메타데이타 저장 방법임을 보이고자 한다.
