Mobile IPv4 is one of the standard methods for supporting the mobility of the node in the IP layer. The main functionality of Mobile IPv4 is to register the location of the mobile node and to tunnel packets to the current location of the mobile node. But in order to make sure that the mobility of the mobile node communicating through a mobile router is supported, the registration process and the tunneling protocol of Mobile IPv4 need to be changed according to the existence of the mobile router.
In this paper we propose tunneling protocols and handoff schemes on the IP layer that support the mobility of the mobile node which is inside a mobile network. This paper focuses on reducing delays through the proposed tunneling protocols compared to the existing protocol. And it also focuses on reducing link recovery time through the proposed handoff schemes compared to the existing scheme. The paper compares the proposed schemes with the existing scheme through simulation and confirms the advantages.
Mobile IPv4는, IP 레벨에서 이동 노드의 이동성을 보장하기 위한 대표적인 방법이다. Mobile IPv4의 주요 동작은 이동 노드의 위치 등록 과정과 현재 이동 노드의 위치로 패킷을 전송하기 위한 터널링으로 구성되어있다. 하지만 이동 라우터를 통해 외부 망과 통신하는 이동 망 내부 이동 노드의 이동성을 보장하기 위해서는, 기존 Mobile IPv4의 위치 등록과정과 터널링이 이동 망의 환경에 맞게 변경되어야한다.
본 논문은 이동 망 내부에 속한 이동 노드의 이동성을 보장하기위한 터널링 프로토콜과 그에 수반한 IP 레벨의 handoff 방식을 제안한다. 본 논문은, 제안하는 터널링 프로토콜을 통해 기존의 방식이 갖는 지연시간을 줄이고, 제안하는 handoff 방식을 통해 기존 방식의 링크 복구 시간을 줄이는데 초점을 맞추었다. 시뮬레이션을 통해 제안한 방식과 기존의 방식을 비교하여 제안한 방식이 갖는 장점을 확인한다.
