We investigated the critical current densities ($J_{Cb}$) at grain boundaries (GB) of bicrystalline $Nd_{1}Ba_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7}$ (NdBCO), $Y_{1}Ba_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7}$ (YBCO) and $Sm_{1}Ba_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7}$ (SmBCO) thin films. We observed that the critical current densities of NdBCO, YBCO and SmBCO dropped as the applied fields were increased from zero to ~4Oe ($H_{JA}$) and then showed relatively small field dependences above $H_{JA}$. These contrasting field dependences of $J_{Cb}$ below and above $H_{JA}$ clearly indicated crossover phenomena in the vortex states. Our experimental results were consistent with a theoretical model, which was based on the concept that the energy difference between Josephson (J-) vortices and Abrikosov (A-) vortices caused the generation of only J-vortices initially. This might result in an initial sharp increase of J-vortex densities at GB, as the field is increased from zero to $H_{JA}$. The critical current densities of NdBCO, YBCO and SmBCO have characteristic decreasing patterns. As the field is increased further, some J-vortices penetrate from GB to intra-grain regions and become A-vortices, which might change the field dependences of $J_{Cb}$.
We designed and manufactured the ‘Co-evaporation using Drum in Dual Chamber (CDDC)’ system comprising an evaporation chamber, a reaction chamber and a cylindrical drum holder. We fabricated a coated conductor 7.5m long and 9mm wide using a bi-axially textured Ni tape. The standard buffer layers, $CeO_{2}/YSZ/CeO_{2}$, were used. A ~2 ㎛ thick SmBCO film was deposited using the CDDC system, followed by in situ deposition of an Ag protection layer. The whole length of SmBCO film was deposited in a single batch process, which took 7hr. We checked the distribution of critical currents ($I_c$) by I-V measurements in all the section comprising the tape. $I_c$ at 77K was 90~130A in most parts of the whole length.
