On the steam generator tubes of nuclear power plants, flow induced vibration results in impact fretting wear damage due to impacting and fretting of the tubes against their AVB support plates.
In this paper, to examine the effects of the temperature, fretting amplitude and impacting load, the impact fretting wear tests were performed at room temperature and 290℃ water, simulating the relative movement of the steam generator tube materials (Alloy 600 and Alloy 690) against the AVB material (409 stainless steel). The wear coefficients of Alloy 600 and Alloy 690 were evaluated on the basis of the work rate model.
The experimental results showed that wear coefficients of impact fretting wear at 290℃ were smaller than those at room temperature. Also, the results shows that wear coefficients of Alloy 690 were smaller than those of Alloy 600. It means that the wear resistance of Alloy 690 is bigger than that of Alloy 600.
The SEM observation of worn surfaces confirmed that, at room temperature, the wear mechanisms of the impact fretting wear were plastic deformation and abrasion, while at 290℃, the mechanisms of the impact fretting wear were adhesion, delamination.
