This thesis deals with virtual garment fitting system for online clothing shopping mall which can help customers to buy garments fitted perfectly on their body with virtual reality technology.
To make a garment, we have to design patterns on a paper according to the desires and the measurements of the customer. We can make a sample by transferring the patterns on the cloth, cutting and sewing them. To produce a garment fitted perfectly on the customer’s body, firstly we need to drape the sample garment around the customer then adjust the width and length of the sample. Also, we need to modify the patterns by referring to the changes of the sample garment. We call this process "Fitting". When we modify a pattern, we have to consider the constraint that length of seamlines seamed together must be the same.
To make it possible through online, customers can drape around the garment and modifies it to be fitted on their body, so that the garment maker can get the pattern of modified ones. This paper proposes virtual garment fitting system for online clothing shopping mall. With the system, customers not only can drape the chosen garment around the 3D characters which have the same measurements of them but also can modify it to be fitted on their body with intuitive two-handed interaction. Moreover, the system modifies the pattern automatically by referring to the changes of the garment.
The system can be used for the communication between fashion designers and pattern specialists. With the system, fashion designers can modify patterns to change the garment according to their ideas without help of pattern specialists. After that, they can see the result of modified garment quickly.
