It is important to consider the effect of system resistance such as a radiator on the fan performance in design and analysis stages. Especially in the design stage, fast estimation of the effect is crucial.
In this study, actuator disc theory is employed, which can present nonuniform flow effect along the blade and momentum change through the blade disc plane. One of the effects of system resistance is included in the conventional actuator theory in this thesis. The validation of the new modified actuator disc theory is carried out by comparing with the experimental data.
For the multi blade fan, cascade effect on the lift curve with respect to the angle of attack become large especially near the hub of fan. Cascade panel method is employed in iterative procedure carried out to match the induced velocity on the disc.
Effects of system resistance, cascade, and camber are included in the performance analysis on this thesis. Their effects are considered in the new design of a cooling fan. However, sweep effect, profile drag is not included in the present study.
