Many investors and technical analysis supporters believe the benefits of technical analysis to beat the market, while scholars doubt about the benefits of technical analysis. Especially, the investors in the index futures market strongly depend on the technical analysis to decide the time when they make trades. The purpose of this study is to find out whether or not technical analysis are useful in Korean financial market by analyzing average daily returns using past 6 years KOSPI200 index futures and seven stocks data. I adopted two technical analysis methods, MACD and PBGT, to verify the benefits of technical analysis. With the results, I suggest whether of not to use these technical analysis in Korean financial market. In summary, MACD has no benefits to a prediction about market trends and PBGT has some benefits, especially to a prediction about Index market trends.
