These days, Building information systems are recognized as important strategy for corporate management. So many companies increase their budget for building information systems. But almost all projects face problems including an excess of budget, a delay of process.
To overcome those problems, many researches are carried out, and found that the main reason of failures in information system is the deficiencies of software process.
So many companies begin to follow famous software process model like CMM or SPICE. According to the annual reports of SEI(System Engineering Institute) of Carnegie Mellon University, the average process maturity level of companies who accessed CMM increases very sharply as the interests of software process increased.
But many companies complain that even if CMM evaluates the process level correctly, CMM fails to give guidance how to improve the process level of companies. And the lack of guidance results in over-budget and overtime in getting higher CMM level.
For giving useful guidance to Korean companies who want to get higher process maturity, this research surveyed 43 companies and analyzed the result by their industries, the size of IT organization, the level of process maturity.
By the result, this research developed the patterns of process maturity, the roadmap for improving process level, the strategy for grouping the key performance area of CMM. And the case studies of leading companies support the findings of this research.
