The human being desires to get the vivid information from his surroundings. The new concept, ‘Wearable Computer’, was made by this desire. A wearable computer is an interface that is used at any time and anywhere, augments the human’s sensibility using various sensors, and always recognizes the changes of the user’s surroundings and informs the user about those. A wearable computer changes the fundamental base of our lives. The representative change is the information flows between a user and a computer.
In this thesis, the change of the information flow from conventional computers to ubiquitous computing modules is modeled. Basic functions of a wearable computer are found in information flow based on a wearable computer. These are modeled as information I/O module, information filtering module, information presentation module, and command transmission module. The wearable system for guiding a campus according to the system modeling is proposed. Indoors, the system recognizes the objects which the user looks at by using the computer vision technology and presents the information associated with the objects to the user according to the objective of visiting the campus. Outdoors, the system recognizes the user’s location using GPS receiver and provides geographic guide services to the user. Also, the invented user interface for inputting characters in the wearable environment is presented. And, athletic meeting applications such as 14th Busan Asian Games are considered as future works for extending the wearable guide system.
