Polyolefin is one of the most commonly used plastics. But it has a disadvantage of poor paintability due to its low surface energy. Graft copolymerization with polar monomers can introduce polar groups on the nonpolar polyolefin backbone. By coating graft copolymer with polar side chain to the polyolefin, the paintability of the polyolefin can be improved. The purpose of this research is the development of coating resin with high adhesion to polyolefin. Solution graft copolymerization of EPDM with polar monomer such as methyl acrylate was performed and grafting ratio of the reaction products under various experiment condition was measured. To use this product as a coating adhesive, products were characerized by using NMR,IR, and contact angle measurement. The morphology of the fracture surface of sample was investigated by using SEM.Methyl acrylate and Chlorine concentration gradient of coating samples were investigated through FT-IR and EDAX. Finally, tape test using 3M-scotch cellophane tape was adapted for the paint adhesion test.
