The orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) is a modulation scheme which divides the available spectrum into several subchannels and transmits digital signals through the subchannels. Synchronization is critical to the performance of the OFDM system because it is very sensitive to carrier frequency offset due to frequency difference between oscillators in the transmitter and the receiver.
In this thesis, we propose a efficient frequency offset estimation scheme for OFDM systems requiring only one pilot block, based on a conventional method which requires two training block. In the small range of frequency offset, we can estimate offset simply. We analyze the error variance of estimator and compare with the results by simulations.
We apply the proposed scheme to WLAN system in order to obtain the performance of it. The scheme results in allowable estimation performance in small frequency offset.
