This research is focused on an improved parameter estimation method using virtual elements. Parameter estimation on the basis of measured vibration signal is widely used especially in the area of FE model tuning and fault diagnosis. Accurate estimation of system parameters is very important in model updating and diagnosis. But due to noise and measurement incompleteness, the estimation is generally inaccurate and highly depends on experiment condition.
Thus there has been many researches on screening best measurement positions. But quite often, measurement can not be made at the selected best measuring points due to unavoidable circumstances such as inaccessibility and space limitations. Thus this work is going to suggest an idea to solve this kind of problems.
The goal of this work is to change measuring points by introducing virtual elements such as mass, stiffness and boundary condition changes.
Several example problems were tested to move the best measuring positions by adding virtual elements and found that this idea can be very effective for this purpose.
