In recent years, there have been many developments in the wireless Internet service using mobile cellular network, but there are still many troubles such as slow transmission speed and expensive tariff of wireless telecommunication network.
Recently, as wireless local area network technologies have rapidly developed, the wireless LAN, HomeRF and Bluetooth attract a lot attention of telecommunication industry's experts as supplementary or attractive alternative medium technologies for wireless Internet service.
Especially, wireless LAN technology has recently gained strong popularity as a proper transmission network technology, along with the trends of Internet contents with huge volume and high speed transmission rate to data rate of 11Mbps at 2.4GHz and to data rate of 54Mbps at 5GHz and low cost, easy and fast installation.
Also, as Korean government allowed wireless data communication service using wireless LAN which utilizes 2.4GHz frequency band in June, 2001, wired telecommunication carriers are planning on attaching wireless LAN equipment to their wired high speed Internet service network such as ADSL and cable TV network. So they are able to utilize the benefits of wired high speed Internet service network, which they already had. Thus, they have actively projected wireless Internet service using wireless LAN.
But, in order to succeed in the launching of wireless Internet service using wireless LAN next year, they have to resolve some kinds of problems such as frequency interference, compatibility of many kind of standard of wireless LAN, and weak secure capability.
To be able to resolve these problems, the government's proper frequency band policy is critical factor and the voluntary cooperation between telecommunication carriers and equipment manufacturers is necessary. So, the government officiaries, telecommunication carriers, and equipment manufacturers should be cooperated each other.
