Multimedia tales refer to fairy tales augmented with audio-visual information. Those currently available on the Internet are mostly prepared manually in advance, i.e., such audio-visual information is created and synchronized with the textual in-formation by human animators. In this thesis, we propose a technique for automatically synthesizing multimedia tales from fairy tales in Korean, and present an implemented prototype that is designed to generate multimedia tales not only for any known fairy tales but also for users' own creations. We utilize Combinatory Categorial Grammar for the analysis of Korean and for the translation into scripts for animation. We identify several linguistic issues for the automatic synthesis of multimedia tales, and suggest methods for resolving some of them.
