Honorification is a linguistic phenomenon frequently seen and well-developed in agglutinative languages such as Korean and Japanese. In this thesis, we present a syntactic account of honorification in Korean with Combinatory Categorial Gram-mar, by focusing on three types of honorification: subject honorification, object honorification, and addressee honorification. We also present an implemented prototype honification checker for Korean, dealing only with the syntactic problems, leaving semantics and discourse related problems for future work. We predict that the system can play a significant role in natural language generation for Korean, from expressions in configurational languages such as English that have less explicit devices for honorification, as well as in checking for mistakes in honorification.
경어법은 한국어나 일본어 등에서 자주 보이고 잘 발달된 언어현상이다. 이 논문에서는 결합범주문법을 이용하여 한국어의 경어현상을 통사적인 관점에서 고려한다. 이때 주체경어, 객체경어, 상대경어의 세 관점에서 다룬다. 그리고 한국어의 경어법 검사기를 통사적인 부분에서 만들고 의미 및 담화적 관점에서는 향후 계획으로 남긴다. 여기서 구현된 시스템은 경어법 검사는 물론 영어와 같이 경어법이 발달하지 않은 언어를 한국어로 번역하는데 크게 기여할 수 있으리라 본다.
