A control IC for the electronic ballast driving fluorescent lamp is designed using 0.8um n-well CMOS process for 5V applications. The control IC has many internal blocks for filament preheating, dimming, over temperature/current protections, and output power regulating regardless of the variation of ac input voltage. The operation of the control IC has been verified by computer simulation.
A control IC for the electronic ballast driving metal-halide lamp is designed using 0.6um n-well CMOS process for 5V applications. The control IC consists of a main operation block and a closed-loop power control block. By closed-loop power control, the lamp current maintains constant value. So this enlarges the lamp life. In addition, the control IC uses FM(frequency modulation) scheme for avoiding acoustic resonance. The operation of the control IC has been verified by computer simulation.
