The turbulent heat-transfer problem of an axisymmetric impinging jet flow is numerically examined. The fully elliptic momentum and energy equations, coupled with k-ω and $\overline{t^2}-ε_t$ turbulent model, are solved by a SIMPLE-type finite volume method. By imposing the realizability constraints, the excessive production of turbulent kinetic energy near the stagnation point could be successfully avoided.
The computation is carried out for a range of jet Reynolds number ($23,000≤Re_D ≤70,000$) and jet-to-target distance ($2≤H/D≤10$). The local heat transfer coefficient is compared with the experimental data and, also, with earlier results with other turbulence models. The results are, in general, satisfactory, although the secondary peak in the local heat transfer coefficient, observed experimentally when the jet-to-target distance is small, is not well captured. The present results appear to be in better agreement with measurement for H/D≥6, while $k-ε-f_μ$ or $k-ε-v^2$ model performs better when $H/D≤4$
