Magnetic resonance force microscopy (MRFM) is a technique which is to detect small oscillatory magnetic forces between spins in the sample and a magnetic tip, using a micromechanical cantilever. Using MRFM, we can detect 3D-image of molecules with the atomic-scale spatial resolution of scanning force microscopy (SPM). We built a room temperature MRFM whose gradient source is an annealed iron sphere and detected small forces (Ο($10^{-13}$)N) by electron spin resonance (ESR) in micron-size samples($(10㎛)^3$).
In this paper, we introduced the basic principles of MRFM and the set-up of our MRFM apparatus.
