Location service is embossed as the killer application of IMT-2000 services as the wireless internet is activated and the location technology is going to be introduced to the Mobile Communication Network. In this thesis we analyze the prospects for the market of location service that is in the early stage of development. We present a strategy of service provision for the Korea Telecom which is the IMT-2000 carrier.
First the Location service is classified into Location-based information service, Personal tracking service, Vertical service, Traffic/Navigation service, and Location-based billing service according to the user’s point of view. And the strategic importance is analyzed in the revenue and core competence aspects according to application services. Location-based information service and Traffic/Navigation service are categorized as a revenue service and Personal tracking service and Vertical service as a strategic service. The major services are suggested by the market development stages upon business environment analysis.
Secondly for the best location technology, we suggest that the simultaneous adoption of two Assisted GPS and Cell ID methods are necessary when Cell ID, IPDL-OTDOA, and Assisted GPS methods are analyzed according to application services in the domestic technical suitability and cost points of view.
Finally, we present the revenue model according to the application services.
