In this dissertation, electromagnetic wave radiation from multiple circumferential slots on a conducting circular cylinder and coaxial cable is theoretically investigated and rigorous analytic formulations are derived. Chapter 1 outlines some prior works on the relevant areas such as analysis method, leaky wave antenna, and their limitations.
In chapter 2, the radiation characteristics of a dielectric-filled edge-slot (DFES) antenna, which is made by circumferentially removing the outer conductor of a coaxial line, is analyzed. The Fourier transform and mode matching technique are utilized to obtain a new solution in a fast convergent series. A dominant-mode solution for the reflected power and the radiation field is given in a simple form. The Numerical investigations are performed to show the behavior of the antenna input impedance and the radiation pattern.
In chapter 3, multiple dielectric-filled edge-slot antenna is proposed for the slot array antenna and its radiation characteristics are analyzed. A simple, rigorous solution is represented and its reflection and radiation characteristics are examined in terms of the slot number.
In chapter 4 - 5, the radiation from multiple circumferential slots on a coaxial cable is rigorously studied to check the possibility of using this antenna as the slot array antenna. The effects of the number of the slots on the reflection and radiation characteristics are investigated in chapter 4.
The radiation characteristics of multiple circumferential slots on a coaxial cable with a layer of dielectric is studied in chapter 5. Numerical computations show that the effect of a thin dielectric cover on the radiation pattern is not significant.
In chapter 6, electromagnetic wave radiation from multiple circumferential slots on a conducting circular cylinder is analyzed for the $TE_01$ (transverse electric) and $TM_01$ (transverse magnetic) modes. The effects of the number of the slots on the angular radiation pattern and frequency scanning characteristics are investigated.
In chapter 7, electromagnetic wave radiation ($TM_01$ incident) from a finite circumferential slot on a conducting circular cylinder is studied using the Fourier transform and mode matching technique. Numerical computations are performed to investigate its radiation characteristics in terms of slot geometry. For the multiple finite slots case, it can be used as slot array antenna.
