The purpose of this thesis is to identify the influential factors and their impacts with the multi-factor analysis in the choice of technology acquisition mode. Although this area has already been studied, some limitations are found in most of the previous studies. Their research was based on one or a few factors and/or under the conditions of ceteris paribus for the appropriate mode. Hence, this study suggests an integrated framework within which various internal and external factors(characteristics of a firm, its needed technology, and external environments) can be studied. And then questionnaire returns from the small and medium size firms in the Korean telecommunication equipment industry are analyzed, primarily using multiple discriminant analysis to distinguish among three modes of the firms' R&D involvement (In-house R&D, R&D cooperation and Technology purchasing). The results show that the significant discriminant factors are found in each characteristics and that historical pattern of the choice of mode is the most significant factor between In-house R&D and other modes, and accumulated technological capability between R&D cooperation and Technology purchasing. Finally, the thesis presents a discussion of the meanings of results and conclusions with implications.
본 연구의 목적은 기술획득 전략의 의사결정에서 이의 영향요인 규명 및 그 정도를 다변량 분석을 이용하여 규명하고자 하는 것이다. 지금까지 기술획득 전략과 관련된 연구는 특히 1980년대 이래 지속적으로 이루어지고 있지만 대부분의 연구에서 다음과 같은 공통된 문제점을 나타내고 있다. 즉, 과거의 연구는 단지 하나 또는 일부의 변수만을 이용하여 분석을 하고 있거나 다른 요인은 고정되어 있다는 가정하에서 분석을 하고 있다는 점이다.
따라서 본 연구에서는 먼저 기업이 직면하고 있는 내/외부의 다양한 영향요인(기업자체의 특성, 필요 기술의 특성, 외부 환경 특성)을 고려한 통합모형을 제시한다. 이 통합모형은 전략론의 핵심적 접근법이라고 할 수 있는 규범이론, 자원기저이론, 진화론, 거래비용 이론 및 산업조직론에서의 접근법(특히 산업분석론)을 통합한 접근법이다.
그리고 이 모형을 통하여 나온 가설을 한국 통신산업내의 중소기업을 대상으로 한 설문을 대상으로 하여 분석을 하였으며, 특히 본 연구에서의 주된 방법론인 다변량 판별분석을 이용하여 기업의 연구개발에 대한 몰입정도에 의하여 정의된 전략 (내부 연구개발, 연구개발 협력, 및 기술구매)의 결정에 대한 차별적 영향요인 및 영향력을 규명한다.
설문 분석의 결과 각 특성별로 유의한 판별변수가 도출되었으며, 특히 내부 연구개발과 연구개발 협력 전략간의 판별요소는 기업의 과거의 관련 전략선택의 역사가 가장 중요한 변수로 나타났으며, 연구개발 협력과 기술구매 간에는 축적된 기업내부의 기술 능력이 가장 중요한 변수로 나타났다.
마지막으로 결론부분에서는 본 연구의 의미 및 활용방안, 본 연구의 한계 및 향후의 연구방향을 제시하고 있다.
