In order to solve the fogging and poor abrasion resistance of transparent polymer, organic-inorganic hybrid coating materials which have hydrophilic property and abrasion resistance were made by sol-gel process. Various HEMA-MPTS copolymers with different ratio of HEMA to MPTS were prepared by the copolymerization of HEMA(2-Hydroxyethyl methacrylate) and MPTS(3-methacryloxy propyl trimethoxy silane). The various compositions of TSPEDA(N-[3-trimethoxysilyl propyl] ethylene diamine) and HEMA-MPTS copolymer were coated on PET film and cured at 130℃ for 2hr. The thickness of coatings was 3.3± 0.2㎛. The coating was highly transparent; the transmission for visible light was higher than 90%. As the mol ratio of HEMA to MPTS in HEMA-MPTS copolymer increased, hydrophilic property continuously increased but abrasion resistance was nearly the same from HEMA-MPTS (7:3) copolymer to HEMA-MPTS (1:9) copolymer. Specially, the coatings of TSPEDA/HEMA-MPTS (9:1 and 7:3) copolymer showed the lowest hydrophilic property at the middle composition. It was caused by the alcohol condensation reaction between hydroxyl group of HEMA and silanol. As the TSPEDA content increased, adhesion between caoating layer and PET film was improved by hydrogen bond of amine. The surface tension and polarity of PET film surface increased by TSPEDA/HEMA-MPTS copolymer coatings.
