Multimedia industry is in the growing stage of industry life cycle and under uncertain and competitive environment, so the previous experience of advanced companies in technology innovation perspective may be very helpful to companies not having many experience of innovation in developing country. The cases of the advanced companies are analyzed in four types. First type is the innovation in existing industry. Second type is the innovation of value chain in existing industry. Third type is the creation of industry standard in new industry. Fourth type is the creation of new industry. The cases from each type, I think, are appropriate for the study of most multimedia products existing from entering stage to mature stage in industry life cycle because the four types also involve similar period of stages in most multimedia products.
The results from four examples of case study show that the competitive strategy should be made in different ways according to each level of industry life cycle, i.e., entering stage, growing stage and mature stage. And the some key success factors from case analyses of advanced companies may be applied on several aspects to late-move companies.
The DTV product is analyzed from the perspective of industry life cycle. From the case study of DTV product, the key success factor in technological capability could be found in each stage and the technology strategy of DTV should be made differently in each stage of industry life cycle.
