Under the circumstances of digital economy converging into an open and gigantic market, companies can hardly survive standing alone. To cope with such an environmental change, this thesis plans to study how to activate those small & medium sized companies and promote the cooperation between them and the large companies, through the analysis of the successful factors of the small & medium sized companies abroad.
The common factors of the successful small & medium sized companies abroad lie on the specialization, integration & networking, entrepreneurship, cooperation with large companies, and the appropriate government policies. And, it leads us to conclude that the domestic small & medium sized companies need to: (1) integrate themselves as much as possible; and in case of the high-tech industries especially, form the networks by integrating regionally (2) put emphasis on the specialization (3) facilitate open system.
The relationship between the large companies and small & medium sized companies should transit from the traditional vertical & closed to new horizontal & open cooperation system.
In the short term, both parties need to try alliances based on the core assets of each party: the partnership with which the former play major roles in the areas requiring of much manpower and investment, while the latter in the areas requiring of originality and motive power. And, in the long term, it would lead to the alliance integrating the facility investment and core assets, together with co-development. Here, the large companies can complement their originality & motive power, by investing in facility rather than covering all areas. Further, they can help their partners to enhance competitive power with the co-development with which would bring equivalent effects with technology transfer. And, the small & medium sized companies should be able to innovate themselves utilizing these transferred technologies or facility environments.
