Semiconducutor's product life cycle will be rapidly shortened due to technology acceleration of electronic devices such as computer, digital TV, and multi-media. Particularly DRAM devices will experience more rapid shortening of life cycle than other kind of semiconductors because of simultaneous selling of multi-generation products. In a competitive environment that becomes more and more intense and dynamic, next generation semiconductor commercialization is a focal point of competition in the DRAM product market.
This thesis focuses on finding strategic alternative in the period of technology creation of Samsung Semiconductor manufacturing devision by studying the technology development stages devided as a prior learning, technology assimilation, and technology improvement.
To this end, we first refine the strategic fitness between each activity that affects time to market performance, on which the framework of the integrated study is based. Secondly, we investigate the activities or tasks to be performed in each stage, such as managing the raw material and equipment suppliers, management of product development processes, technolgy transfer, and manufacturing problem solving. Finally, we devise a strategic altenative for acquring competitive power in the period of tecnology creation for the effective management of product generations in a semiconductor company.
