This paper deals with a registration method for surgical robot. A surgical robot tends to be frequently used in orthopedic surgery, but this robot has to do a registration before operation. A registration is a matching all the geometric data available for a patient in a unique coordinate system. Several methods were suggested. These methods are group into a pin based registration and an image based registration method. But these methods have some problems, so I suggest a new registration method.
This method uses 2D X-ray films and a block gauge, so it is simple for using. This gauge has a hexahedral shape of head, so if normal vectors in the three faces of the head are taken, this block gauge's coordinate is taken. Concequently we get the coordinate of femur by using block gauge's coordinate.
In this paper I introduce the usage of block gauge and take the experiment, and the result shows that the block gauge based registration is available.
