An efficient postprocessor is developed for visualizing the finite element results on personal computers. To smooth discontinuous stresses resulting from the use of piecewise continuous fields of primary variables, the stress recovery scheme of REP is implemented in the program.
A graphic engine by Open GL API is developed and incorporated into the program together with performance oriented data structures for effective visualization and reasonable performance on PC.
The practicality and effectiveness of the program is demonstrated through several examples. Further development would be desirable to extend and supplement the recovery scheme to various types of finite elements and to reduce the time of reading the finite element results.
