Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Systems have received much attention for their potential to help companies make more effective decisions. It aim to provide an integrated, enterprise-wide information service that allows the organization to efficiently respond to any change in level of market demand and effective decision making. So, the implementations of ERP packages have been increased at a rapid pace during the last three years in Korea. But there are few cases where the original effects of ERP implementation have been given full play. And a few studies have been carried out to find out the critical success factor to get a full benefit from the ERP. But they couldn't explain the reason that why introductions of ERP are unsuccessful, because they use the only several limited company's cases to explain it. So I present an overview of ERP and provide a detailed description of successful guideline for the introduction of ERP through the analysis of survey and provide the major reasons why ERP implementations were unsuccessful in the past in Korea. And then I suggest some ideas for successful implementation of ERP through the analysis of the survey data, which was collected from the 27 companies that already have implemented ERP and using it now in Korea.
The most important results in this study are the facts that most Korean companies exploit ERP system as their Strategic Information System (SIS) and have more satisfaction from the ERP systems when they implemented ERP through the Staged Implementation rather than Big Bang approach.
