In this thesis, the system capacity and the channel assignment pattern in multiband overlay CDMA system are considered. The inter-chip symbol interference and the multiple-access interference from the same subsystem and the other subsystems which are overlaid in the frequency domain are analyzed based on the chip pulse shaping waveform. The signal-to-noise ratio of each subsystem is derived and the maximum system capacity is obtained under the constraints of the required SNR of each subsystem. The optimum chip waveform of each subsystem with the symbol timing error is investigated and the channel assignment pattern based on the optimum chip waveform is presented.
