Motion is an important cue in understanding dynamic scene like video sequences. So, multiple motion estimation is becoming an important research topic in the computer vision field because of its wide applications.
Three main issues of multiple motion estimation for representation are as follows. (1) the number of motions in the image (2) motion parameters of each motion (3) its spatial support. But there's no general rule to determine the number of motions still.
Recently, many methods on the subject of multiple motions and their spatial support estimation from image sequence are proposed. One of such methods, a method has been proposed to determine the number of motions using Minimum Description Length (MDL) principle without explicit threshold value. But that method should exhaustively search every motion models to find minimum description length.
We propose a new method that results in competitive results. Model Proportion and Motion Parameter Similarity are used as simple cues that likely give minimum description length to determine the number of motions instead of searching every motion models.
We test our method and get similar number of motions and much less computation time compared to the results using the MDL principle. The test results of synthetic images and real images are demonstrated on this document.
