Virtual factory era is coming. Due to electronic network development, dozens of factories are linked by a network that would enable them to operate as one, flexible and inexpensive, regardless of their locations. This network would make it easy for companies to exchange information about inventory and production levels and delivery schedules, especially about new product development(NPD). Therefore concurrent engineering (CE)in NPD has developed using this network and 3D information as a communication channel that maximizes the effects of CE.
This paper examines and evaluates capabilities required to develop strategies of implementing 3 dimensional CE (3D CE) based on advanced manufacturing technology in manufacturing company. First capabilities required to implement 3D CE were extracted from interviewees who work for set maker, SI company, software vendor and mold maker. Then a framework is formulated and applied to a 3D CE project in order to obtain a guideline in developing strategies to implement successfully 3D CE in electronic products manufacturing company. Finally this paper suggests ways to maximize the effects of 3D CE in manufacturing company.
