Many enterprises promote BPR(Business Process Reengineering) as a method to deal actively in environment which keeps changing. It is understood that in 21st Century's environments, Electronic Commerce, Electronic Community and CALS will be used as a implementation methodology of BPR and these are the results of implementing BPR.
But, in fact, many enterprises have failed in BPR. So many materials and efforts were spent without intended results. This results from lack of understanding of BPR, poor established methodologies of BPR and lack of skill in information technologies.
In the course of BPR, implementing information technology and establishing information system including its infrastructure are two most critical tasks other than fundamental project tasks such as obtaining senior managements' support & approval and selection of process to be studied.
This thesis proposes a BPR methodology which can be used to implement BPR projects successfully. It is named the Concurrent BPR Methodology. The Concurrent BPR Methodology suggests the alignment of BPR with IT(Information Technology), which would eliminate the large chasm in implementation between BPR and IT. This is repositioning of BPR. It is also suggested that the main purpose of the conducting BPR should be changed from the reduction of expenses, the downsizing of the organizational structure and man power, and improvement of productivity to the fundamental renovation of management.
The concurrent BPR methodology divides the BPR project procedures into six elements; visioning, establishment of business strategy, redesign of business process, implementation of information technology, information strategy planning, construction of information system infrastructure and show how these tasks should be performed concurrently to make a BPR project successfully by analyzing several different BPR cases.
Further, this study presents a model which analyzes the required resources, duration and the starting time and termination time. This model can be used to evaluate the BPR and to provide the guidelines in conducting future BPR projects.
