In this paper, we investigate some of the key factors that determine the effectiveness of IT (Information Technology) on global operations, analyzing the data from 35 global firms in Korea. We propose that the effectiveness be determined by globalization level, IT application level, and organizational factors/supports. The research outcome shows that an effective global IT system requires comparably advanced levels of the key determinants. For instance, a high level of globalization needs to be accompanied with similarly advanced IT application and organizational supports, in order for the firms to utilize their global IT systems more effectively in improving their global operations. Based on the research result, we conclude that the key factors, i.e., globalization level, IT application, and organizational supports, affecting the effectiveness of global information system, must evolve together and compatibly for an optimal utilization of the information technology.
