Numerical analysis of dynamic response of a solid subjected to pressure loading due to gushing gas flow is performed using the commercial code DYTRAN. The finite element method and the finite volume method are used for the analyses of the solid part and the fluid part, respectively wherein the solid is assumed to be linear elastic and the gas to be inviscid. Particularly a special coupling algorithm is needed for the fluid-solid interaction in the numerical calculation. The strategy for coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian calculation is to apply pressure boundary conditions on the Lagrangian mesh from the Eulerian mesh, and to treat the Lagrangian mesh boundaries as velocity condtions in the Eulerian mesh. A simple example for evaluating the fluid-solid interaction algorithm is demonstrated. Results of numerical experiments are presented to represent the dynamic responses of the solid in terms of its mass.
